Numa noite que parecia que iria se enveredar para o previsível, com La La Land se tornando o grande vencedor da noite,  Meryl Streep surge no palco e solta o verbo. Ao receber o prêmio pela carreira, Streep fez questão de dar um tapa de pelica em Donald Trump, num discurso contra a xenofobia, fascismo e preconceito do qual, infelizmente, podem vir a crescer num país que elegeu esse ultraconservador.
